James Nolan is a life-long resident of Yonkers, NY, the oldest of his 4 siblings, and a proud graduate of Yonkers Public Schools. James received his degree in Criminal Justice from from Western Oklahoma State College. James is an active union member and has been for over a decade. In the Fall of 2015, James and his family’s lives changed forever with the drive-by shooting murder of his younger brother Michael. His brother, who was just starting his professional baseball career, was also James’s best friend. In a pursuit to continue his legacy of service and hard work, James founded The Michael Nolan Foundation in his memory to provide scholarships to graduates of Yonkers Public Schools every year, while mentoring children.
Over the past 5 years, James has successfully passed legislation on state and local levels such as an illegal gun buyback program and a drag racing confiscation law. During the COVID-19 pandemic, James has organized over 38 food and PPE drives for members of the community, especially frontline workers. James has also successfully put together programs such as the blanket drive where he gave out 4,600 blankets in the community, as well as a Christmas Toy Drive.
James is an advocate and outspoken voice for many things such as getting illegal guns off of the streets, organ donation, education, and ending illegal drag racing. He often gives speeches at universities, hospitals, high schools, community groups, political subjects, and once made an address about his family’s story at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
James is constantly involved in community service, and has always had our backs. When elected, he plans on making change and bringing his energy to the BOARD OF LEGISLATORS, and accomplish a lot more for all of us.
